Welcome 2024 & NC Northern Peaks State Trail Progress
So, 2023, the Offical NC Year of the Trail, is in the books. You can still see all about it here: Great Trails NC and here with a short video clip. Also, an article in the Watauga Democrat submitted by BRHC Member, Bill Baker, provides a great update on the progress of developing and building a trail that will connect downtown Boone, with West Jefferson:See it here
The BRHC is an informal group of hiking enthusiasts in north-western North Carolina, an area known as the High Country. Full-time and part-time residents as well as visitors are welcome to join us.
We schedule hikes year-round in places such as the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Mountains-to-Sea trail, the Appalachian Trail, Linville Gorge, Roan Mountain, and the Virginia Creeper Trail (Virginia). There are hikes to suit all interests and levels of ability. Hikes range in difficulty from easy to strenuous. At the Club Calendar you will find a complete list of our upcoming hikes and other club events. Also, click here for special seasonal hiking tips ...especially winter.
Both Club members and nonmembers are welcome on hikes. If you are new to hiking, the Monday hikes are a good way to get started. Shorter and typically easier than the Wednesday and Saturday hikes, they do not require a reservation. Just show up at the trail head on Monday morning at 9:30, and we will be happy to have you hike with us.
