Hike the High Country of North Carolina
Four Hikes A Week All Year Long

As of May 2021, Group Hikes Started Again But With Rules

The club urges hike leaders and hikers to follow these basic considerations, AKA Dave's 4.

  1. Only those who have received both vaccine shots, plus two weeks after
the 2nd shot, should participate. No form to sign, just an understanding.
  2. Wearing of masks is not required at all times, but hikers should keep one
on their person and available to be worn at need.
  3. Participants agree to strive to maintain a minimum 4 feet of separation at all times.
  4. Eyeglasses as additional protection against airborne virus are recommended

Hikers, please also check with the hike leader regarding any special restrictions and precautions.

The BRHC is an informal group of hiking enthusiasts in north-western North Carolina, an area known as the High Country.  Full-time and part-time residents as well as visitors are welcome to join us.

We schedule hikes year-round in places such as the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Mountains-to-Sea trail, the Appalachian Trail, Linville Gorge, Roan Mountain, and the Virginia Creeper Trail (Virginia). There are hikes to suit all interests and levels of ability. Hikes range in difficulty from easy to strenuous.  At the Club Calendar you will find a complete list of our upcoming hikes and other club events.  Also, click here for special seasonal hiking tips ...especially winter.

The hikes are a great way to experience the beautiful natural features of the area and to meet new friends while enjoying the outdoors.

Both Club members and nonmembers are welcome on hikes. If you are new to hiking, the Monday hikes are a good way to get started. Shorter and typically easier than the Wednesday and Saturday hikes, they do not require a reservation. Just show up at the trail head on Monday morning at 9:30, and we will be happy to have you hike with us.

Please enjoy looking at our website, where you will find information about how to join, a schedule of our hikes, photos of past hikes and information about some of our non-hiking social get-togethers. We always have fun - no matter the weather, and we invite you to join us!  How to Join
