Hike the High Country of North Carolina
Four Hikes A Week All Year Long

The NC State Parks 2026 Annual Theme: America 250

This commemoration offers us a unique opportunity to reflect upon our country’s founding ideals. How have those ideals impacted our last 250 years? How do they resonate today? When are we US? Explore with us the pivotal events, places, and voices, both historical and modern, that have shaped our state and country from the Halifax Resolves to the civil rights movement, and beyond.  The story is here. There are special events and hikes, like this one on January 17th ... The Moonshine Stilll Hike. There are also momentos and other notes of interest at the NC State PARKS site.

Also, an article in the Watauga Democrat submitted IN 2025 by BRHC Member, Bill Baker, provides a great update on the progress of developing and building a trail that will connect downtown Boone, with West Jefferson:See it here

The BRHC is an informal group of hiking enthusiasts in north-western North Carolina, an area known as the High Country.  Full-time and part-time residents as well as visitors are welcome to join us.

We schedule hikes year-round in places such as the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Mountains-to-Sea trail, the Appalachian Trail, Linville Gorge, Roan Mountain, and the Virginia Creeper Trail (Virginia). There are hikes to suit all interests and levels of ability. Hikes range in difficulty from easy to strenuous.  You will find a complete list of our upcoming hikes for the quarter on the Calendar Page, along with other club events.  Also, click here for special seasonal hiking tips ...especially winter.

The hikes are a great way to experience the beautiful natural features of the area and to meet new friends while enjoying the outdoors.

Both Club members and nonmembers are welcome on hikes. If you are new to hiking, the Monday hikes are a good way to get started. Shorter and typically easier than the Wednesday and Saturday hikes, they do not require a reservation. Just show up at the trail head on Monday morning at 9:30, and we will be happy to have you hike with us.

Please enjoy looking at our website, where you will find information about how to join, a schedule of our hikes, photos of past hikes and information about some of our non-hiking social get-togethers. We always have fun - no matter the weather, and we invite you to join us!  How to Join
